Instagram head Adam Mosseri came out to announce that IGTV was no longer a photo sharing app, the platform also decided to let go of it IGTV brand. According to Mosseri the platform is prioritising a shit into video to battle out with the new kid on the block TikTok.
Going forward video is going to be central part and key pillar of the platform. The company is combining IGTV’s long form video and Instagram feed videos into a new format called Ínsgaram Video.
It’s fair to say the move is lead by the thread that is currently underwau led by Bytedance’s new kid TikTok. the company is causing a sleepless night to a number of companies such as Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat.
According to TechCrunch reprt, from now on when people encounter videos on Instagram, they’ll be able to tap anywhere on the video to enter into a fullscreen viewing mode. After watching, they can then choose to keep scrolling to discover more video content from creators or tap the back button to exit.
“None of these changes will impact what Instagram is doing with Reels, though. The company’s short-form video platform and TikTok rival will continue to remain separate, we’re told. They won’t be mixed into this feed of videos, if users choose to scroll”, TechCrunch reports.
The IGTV app, however, isn’t going away. Instagram told TechCrunch it will now be rebranded as “Instagram Video” and will host the “Instagram Video” formatted content, along with Instagram Live videos. But it will not host Reels videos.
