Hisense SA and the Dis-Chem Foundation bring smart laundry solutions to Tehillah Centre in Elsies River

Hisense SA and The Dis-Chem Foundation continue their mission to deliver clean, safe, and dignified environments for communities in need – this time in Cape Town’s Elsies River, where they officially handed over several top-loader washing machines and a tumble dryer to the Tehillah Holistic Centre, on Tuesday 24 June.

The heartfelt event formed part of Hisense SA’s ongoing “Loads of Love” corporate social investment initiative, with the donation including Hisense’s 18kg Tide 5 Smart Top Loader Washing Machine and advanced tumble dryers, which feature essential Time Delay and Child Lock functions, perfectly suited for the center today. To date, the Hisense Loads of Love initiative has donated over 300 machines nationwide—including the three handed over to Tehillah Holistic Centre. While the initiative has primarily focused on the Western Cape so far, the next rollout will extend to Kwa-Zulu Natal, Limpopo, and Gauteng.

The appliances will aim to support the Centre’s operations, by providing them with the laundry infrastructure they need, so that their existing resources may be redirected towards funding their early childhood development (ECD) center, healthcare services, rehab center and feeding programmes – all of which impact hundreds of vulnerable children and families daily.

The Dis-Chem Foundation dutifully covered the full installation costs of the donated units on the day, ensuring immediate and uninterrupted use by the Centre’s staff and volunteers.

“The Tehillah Holistic Centre is doing absolutely incredible work in Elsies River, and we are truly grateful to the Humanitarian Empowerment Fund for introducing us to them last year,” said Jacqueline Kahlberg, spokesperson for The Dis-Chem Foundation. “We are deeply passionate about nutrition, especially in early childhood development. The Centre’s ECD and feeding schemes resonate powerfully with our purpose, and we look forward to continuing our support of their work, well into the future.”

By providing the Centre with reliable, high-capacity washing machines and tumble dryers, there is a significant decrease in the time, cost, and manual labour previously required for daily laundry needs. This operational relief means that staff and volunteers can redirect both time and financial resources toward critical services like the Centre’s feeding programmes. With fewer hours spent hand-washing items and less need to outsource laundry, more of the Centre’s budget can go toward sourcing fresh ingredients, expanding kitchen capacity, and feeding more children and families in need. Clean, efficient laundry infrastructure thus plays an indirect but vital role in strengthening the Centre’s overall impact, especially in nutrition.

Hisense’s Tide 5 Smart Top Loader Washing Machine features a Soak Function that allows clothes to soak in detergent before the main cycle – ideal for loosening stubborn stains, perfect for large volumes of heavily soiled items like bibs, bedding and towels. The tumble dryers’ Time Delay function enables the Centre to schedule laundry loads around daily operations and peak energy rate times, while the Child Safety Lock ensures safe usage in environments where children are always nearby.

“We’re incredibly proud to continue our partnership with The Dis-Chem Foundation in bringing practical, life-improving technology to organisations like Tehillah,” said Alex Chen, Brand Marketing Manager of Hisense SA. “Over the next few weeks, we’ll be donating even more washing machines and tumble dryers to other community-driven organisations and non-profit beneficiaries of The Dis-Chem Foundation across the country – helping more centres like this one deliver on their mission of care.”

To mark the special occasion, Alex Chen and Jacqueline Kahlberg personally loaded and started the Centre’s very first cycle in one of the donated top-loader washing machines. The moment, while simple, was deeply symbolic; a powerful gesture of partnership and care in action. Surrounded by staff, volunteers, and children from the Centre, the two representatives shared in a quiet but moving reminder of how basic dignity starts with clean clothes and how small acts can make a lasting impact.

The joint initiative reinforces Hisense SA and The Dis-Chem Foundation’s shared commitment to uplifting community-based healthcare, education and nutrition through smart, energy-efficient, and high-impact solutions.
