Spotify to launch audiobooks soon says its Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Spotify plans to democratise the audiobook space. The streaming service revealed recently that it will begin testing and trialling audiobooks. This move is part of the company’s strategy to expand its product range portfolio.

“It’s going to come out reasonably soon, but I would say don’t expect that to be the last change or improvement we make on the audiobooks offering,” said Spotify CFO Paul Vogel.

With audiobooks they plan to launch soon, the streamer plays to apply the same business model they did with podcast and music streaming.

“When it comes to podcasting, we gave you a better experience,” Vogel said. “There was no reason for you to switch from whatever you used for podcasts to Spotify, unless we created an environment where it was better and easier for you. And we think there are similar opportunities in audiobooks where we can really innovate and create something that is different.”

Spotify enters the space to compete with the likes of Audiobooks.com, Amazon’s Audible and others.

The streaming platform is one of the few companies that continue innovating in the space by launching and remodelling certain products.

Last month the company launched a new website to sell tickets to live events instead of directing users to third-party ticket merchants.
