The German carmaker BMW announced that it will use Amazon Alexa’s technology to build its next voice assistant.
Previously the automaker used to embed Alexa in its cars, however, now it will built its own and launch it in two years.
“This cooperation with BMW is a great example of what Alexa Custom Assistant was designed for — to make it faster and easier for companies to develop custom intelligent assistants for virtually any device, without the cost and complexity of building from the ground up,” said Dave Limp, senior VP of devices and services at Amazon.
according to Stephan Durach, senior VP of the connected company and development technical operations at BMW Group, said this approach will bring the digital experience to an entirely new level.
BMW started offering the Alexa assistant in select cars starting in 2018 and the friendship had grown ever since.
The jury is still out whether BMW will create a voice assistant similar to Alexa or it will totally create something completely different, only time will tell.
