Tech companies don’t waste time if certain features fail to attract attention, they get it off the way.
After almost a year Meta is shutting down Bulletin, its newsletter. The invite-only newsletter had industry-heavy weight contributors such as Malcolm Gladwell, Tan France and Malala Yousafzai.
The newsletter platform was similar to Substack, it allowed writers to sell a subscription to their newsletter, unfortunately, there was no appetite for Bulletin.
“Bulletin has allowed us to learn about the relationship between Creators and their audiences and how to better support them in building their community on Facebook,” said Meta spokesperson.
“While this off-platform product itself is ending, we remain committed to supporting these and other Creators’ success and growth on our platform.” Bulletin will close shop in early 2023 however, writers will continue to earn subscription revenue until such time.
The good news for writers, they will have access to the email database of their subscribers, and they can inform them where to access their newsletters in the future.
Meta plans to channel its resources to the algorithmic discovery and compete with the new kid on the block TikTok.
It’s fair to say Meta is faced with an identity crisis, they’re no longer a market leader, they follow what other companies are doing and copy instead of leading the charge like during its former years.
