Seven firms admitted to programme which hopes to improve fan experience and drive revenues.

T-Mobile has admitted nine tech startups into a new accelerator designed to advance the development and commercialisation of 5G innovations for the sports industry.

  • 5G networks offer faster speeds, greater capacity, and ultra-low latency
  • T-Mobile believes 5G can deliver more immersive in-venue experiences

The US operator said more than 70 companies applied for the programme, which will provide resources and support – including access to its 5G infrastructure – to participants.

At a technical level, 5G networks offer faster speeds, greater capacity and lower latency than previous generations of mobile technology. In practical terms, these characteristics help address the issue of network congestion in stadiums and enable entirely new use cases that were previously impossible.
