Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in world sport took arguably its most significant step yet on 6th June when the LIV Golf series announce a merger with the PGA and DP World Tours. The kingdom is now a key player in global sport but this may only be the beginning…

⚽ There is heavy investment going on to bring some of the world’s top soccer stars to the kingdom. In January, Cristiano Ronaldo joined Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, who recently came under PIF ownership and are paying the Portuguese star a reported US$200m per year. 

🏎️ Saudi company Aramco is one of F1’s top-tier global sponsors and the country has a ten-year hosting deal with Formula One worth a reported US$55 million a year.

🐎 Saudi Arabia has a well-established history in horse racing, like a lot of Middle Eastern countries. Recently, the country took a far more prominent role in the sport with the introduction of the Saudi Cup, the richest race in the world at US$20 million.
