Report: Burkina Faso’s richest man opens high-tech medical center in Ouagadougou

Minister hails Bonkoungou’s Princess Sarah Clinic, a beacon of hope for Burkina Faso’s health sector

Burkina Faso’s richest man Mahamadou Bonkoungou has further diversified his business portfolio with the inauguration of the Princess Sarah Clinic, a high-tech medical facility located in Ouaga 2000, a modern extension of the country’s capital city, Ouagadougou.

The inauguration ceremony, held on Jan. 4, 2024, was graced by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Health, Robert Lucien Kargougou, emphasizing the significance of this strategic healthcare initiative. The Princess Sarah Clinic aims to address the shortage of medical-technical facilities within Burkina Faso, evident during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In collaboration with a Turkish clinic, the Princess Sarah Clinic will deploy experienced medical staff to augment its services, addressing issues related to patient evacuation and enhancing the overall healthcare landscape in Burkina Faso.

Minister Robert Lucien Kargougou commended Bonkoungou’s visionary step into the healthcare sector, stating that the Princess Sarah Clinic will significantly contribute to improving healthcare provisions, especially in the Central region and across Burkina Faso.

Bonkoungou, the 58-year-old founder of the EBOMAF Group, highlighted the clinic’s genesis, explaining that it was conceived in response to the observed inadequacies in the country’s health infrastructure and the challenges faced during the pandemic. He emphasized the partnership with the Turkish clinic as a crucial aspect of this venture.

The Princess Sarah Clinic is equipped with cutting-edge medical facilities, offering a range of services including general medicine, surgery, neurology, cardiology, medical analysis laboratory, 128-strip scanner, MRI, coronary angiography, stress ECG, and physiotherapy.

Bonkoungou’s healthcare leap: A strategic move beyond aviation and banking ventures

This healthcare initiative follows Bonkoungou’s recent expansion into the aviation industry with the launch of Liza Transport, a private jet charter company that commenced operations in 2023.

Prior to this, in 2021, he ventured into banking with the acquisition of the Togolese Bank for Commerce and Industry (BTCI), leading to the establishment of IB Bank through IB Holding, an investment entity controlled by the Burkinabe construction tycoon.

Bonkoungou’s strategic diversification into healthcare reaffirms his commitment to contributing to the overall development and well-being of Burkina Faso, expanding his influence beyond the construction and banking sectors.
