Pay-TV broadcaster TNT Sports will offer free live coverage of Uefa European club competition finals will on Discovery+ instead of YouTube this year.
- Discovery+ will broadcast the Uefa Europa League final on 22nd May, Europa Conference League final on 29th May, and the Champions League final on 1st June without the need for a subscription
- Viewers will need to register for a free account to access the live streams
- Premium subscribers will be able to access full buildup ahead of all three finals
Although the Champions League is not a protected event on the UK government’s ‘crown jewel’ list of events that must be shown on free-to-air (FTA) television, TNT Sports (and its predecessor BT Sport) has offered a free feed of Uefa’s European club competition finals since it acquired the exclusive rights to the competitions in the 2014/15 season. The first final to be distributed via YouTube was in 2016.
Shifting coverage from YouTube to Discovery+ will encourage more fans to sign up to the platform and give WBD a more effective route to convert free users into paying subscribers.
Elsewhere, Atalanta have agreed a short-term front-of-shirt sponsorship with Paramount+. The streamer’s logo first appeared on the team’s kit during their Coppa Italia final loss to Juventus, and will also feature during the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen.
