OPINION | The Social Media Awakening writes by John Sanei

Once upon a time, social media felt like a digital campfire. We logged on to connect and share. Then the numbers showed up. Followers. Likes. Views. And with them came a shift. It stopped being about connection and started being about proof. About status. About a leaderboard none of us actually signed up for.

We’ve all felt it. That low-grade frustration when a post flops or someone else’s numbers explode. Some chased shortcuts. Bought followers. Paid for polish. Let someone in a far-off country fake their influence. Now they’re left with ghost towns. Thousands of followers. No engagement. No real sense of impact.

Social media is maturing. We have no idea what stage of that evolution we’re in, but we know that the performative era is crumbling. The new game is not only about how many follow you. It’s about how many feel you.

Actionable Insight

Something to consider the next time you post on social media.Numbers by themselves don’t make you real. Resonance does. Social media will only amplify what already exists. Make sure what exists is true. The next wave of social media influence is based on honesty, clarity, and ongoing presence. The rest is noise.

Until next time…keep future rising
