Former Bloomberg Media COO Julia Beizer to join Microsoft, Lead AI News Division

The chief operating officer of Bloomberg Media, Julia Beizer, is leaving the company after eight years to join Microsoft. Beizer will lead Microsoft’s AI news product and work under Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman, according to a person with direct knowledge of the move.

Beizer confirmed to ADWEEK that she is leaving Bloomberg Media this month, although she declined to comment on her new appointment. Microsoft did not return a request for comment.

“I’m currently wrapping up eight incredible years at Bloomberg,” Beizer said.

Beizer joined Bloomberg Media in 2018 as its chief product officer, before later becoming its chief digital officer. She has held the chief operating officer role since July 2024.

In a statement, Bloomberg Media CEO Karen Saltser credited Beizer with growing a subscription business with more than 700,000 subscribers.

“We’re truly grateful for the role Julia has played over seven years at Bloomberg Media to grow a business that now reaches more than 700,000 paying subscribers,” Saltser said in the statement. “Building on that, our team is well-positioned to reach even more audience and revenue milestones in the coming years. We wish her much success in what’s ahead.”

In her new role at Microsoft, Beizer will lead its AI news product across Microsoft platforms, according to the person.

In 2024, Microsoft launched Copilot Daily, an audio summarization of news and weather sourced from publishers like Reuters, Axel Springer, and the Financial Times. In September, the company launched its Publisher Content Marketplace (PMC), which aimed to make Microsoft the first major technology company to build an AI marketplace for publishers.

The company has invited select publishers, including Condé Nast, to participate in the two-sided marketplace, which would pay outlets for use of their data to power Copilot. The PMC suggests that Microsoft is looking to deepen its relationship with publishers as it restructures its relationship with OpenAI, in which Microsoft is the largest minority investor.
