Good news for GoTyme Bank, formerly TymeBank, the bank will allow South African customers with Apple iPhones to use Apple Pay within the next few weeks, the bank has told MyBroadband.
“This approach allows the bank to prioritise security, system stability, and performance while ensuring each feature is thoroughly tested before being made available to customers,” it said.
“Apple Pay will be made available in the next few weeks, and we’ll be messaging all our iOS customers as soon as it’s available.”
Currently, the bank supports the major digital wallets Samsung Pay, Google Wallet, and Garmin Pay, but its customers with iOS devices have been unable to link their TymeBank cards to Apple Pay.
The use of digital wallets has increased significantly in South Africa in recent years, as more consumers are shifting to digital payments that don’t require a bank card.
“Many South Africans now carry a smartphone. For many households, that device is the main connection to banking, shopping, and public services,” said cross-board payment infrastructure platform Thunes.
“Even consumers with traditional bank accounts are finding it easier to manage day-to-day finances through mobile banking apps and connected wallets.”
The digital bank’s new app went live on 22 January 2026, and certain features are being introduced in phases rather than all at once.
