evoila Africa appoints former Microsoft cloud specialist Keevan Chun to drive private cloud growth across Africa

evoila Africa, the African division of global cloud infrastructure specialist evoila, has appointed Keevan Chun as cloud solution sales specialist. Chun brings more than two decades of industry experience to the role, including 12 years at Microsoft, where he most recently served as a cloud solutions sales specialist for Azure. He has also held roles at Oracle and Avaya.

The appointment follows the formation of evoila Africa earlier this year, when Routed was acquired by evoila, one of a select group of Broadcom’s global VMware partners. evoila Africa is a Pinnacle Broadcom VMware Cloud Service Provider, the highest tier of Broadcom’s cloud service provider programme.

Andrew Cruise, managing director of evoila Africa, says the appointment is part of a wider investment in the business. “Keevan knows this market well. He’s worked with customers on cloud and infrastructure decisions for more than 20 years, and our customers and partners will benefit from that experience,” says Cruise.

Keevan Chun’s role

Many organisations across Africa are reviewing their cloud and infrastructure strategy, often because public cloud costs have been higher than expected or because data sovereignty rules now affect where they can store data.

Chun will work with enterprises, the broader market and evoila Africa’s partner ecosystem to help them work through those decisions. His focus will be on private cloud, either as an alternative to public cloud and on-premises infrastructure or as something to run alongside them. evoila Africa can sell VMware licensing and services anywhere in Africa, so Chun will work with customers and partners across the continent.

Research from Broadcom suggests the trend is widespread. Its Private Cloud Outlook 2026, a global survey of 1,800 senior IT leaders, found that 83% of respondents are considering moving workloads from public to private cloud, and half have already moved some. Cost has also overtaken security as the top concern respondents had about public cloud.

“I spent a long time working in public cloud, and a lot of the conversations I had with customers came back to cost and to where their data was being stored,” says Chun. “Private cloud has come a long way, and for many workloads it now gives customers what they need at a cost they can plan for. I want to help customers look at it properly as an option.”

evoila Private Cloud

Much of Chun’s work will involve evoila Private Cloud, the company’s enterprise VMware private cloud. Customers subscribe to it, so they don’t need to own or operate a VMware environment themselves.

evoila Private Cloud is currently deployed in South Africa. Data hosted on it stays in South Africa and under South African jurisdiction, which helps South African organisations meet requirements such as the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). The platform includes infrastructure, platform and application services, and customers can use its native cloud services to build new applications or to migrate existing ones.

“For South African customers in regulated industries, being able to keep data in the country and still use a full set of cloud services makes a big difference,” says Chun.

What evoila Africa does

VMware Cloud remains evoila Africa’s core expertise. The company is a VMware cloud operator that designs, deploys and operates VMware private clouds at scale. Customers can use evoila Private Cloud as a service. Organisations that run their own VMware Cloud Foundation environment, or use one run by a partner, can get help through evoila Africa’s Managed Private Cloud service. evoila Africa can also supply VMware licensing and services to organisations anywhere in Africa.

“Designing and running VMware private clouds is the team’s day job, on evoila Private Cloud and in customers’ own data centres,” says Chun. “I’m looking forward to helping more organisations across Africa get value from it.”
