Woolworths to Introduce Woolies Dash, same-day delivery service

On Wednesday, Woolworths announce the “trial launch” of its same-day grocery delivery service, Woolies Dash.

The service will be a direct competitor to Checkers’ hugely popular Sixty60, which has been eating its competitors’ lunch.

While buying online groceries from Woolworths and Pick n Pay involves booking delivery slots well in advance, Checkers capitalised on the large market for last-minute, urgent grocery shopping. Launched a year ago, its Sixty60 app allows users to shop more than 7,000 products from their smartphone and get their groceries delivered in an hour.

But Woolworths says Woolies Dash will be the first on-demand delivery service that offers a store-to-door cold chain. The retailer designed and manufactured high-tech cooler boxes to make sure that deliveries – via motorcycles – stay refrigerated.

Woolies Dash will delivery groceries, including fresh produce, pantry staples and household essentials.

The Woolies Dash app can be downloaded from the iOS or Android store, and will be available to customers situated within 5km of the following stores during the trial:

  • Western Cape. V&A Waterfront, Canal Walk, Cavendish, Gardens, Cape Gate, Blue Route, Tygervalley
  • Gauteng. Cresta, Clearwater Mall, Norwood Mall, Menlyn, Dainfern Square, The Grove, Lynnwood Road, Benmore Gardens, The Glen
  • Kwa-Zulu Natal. Musgrave, La Lucia

The delivery service will be free during the trial phase.
