Lionel Messi signs three-year cryptocurrency sponsorship deal with Bitget

Lionel Messi becomes the latest soccer star to sign a sponsorship deal with Bitget, a cryptocurrency and web3 platform. The deal is reportedly worth US$20 million over three years.

According to Singapore-headquartered-based Bitget, the deal will give fans of the Argentinean and (PSG) Paris Saint-Germain forward the opportunity to explore Web 3.0 and the potential of trading crypto.

“We try to reflect the diversity and richness of our platform community in the partnerships we choose,” said Gracy Chen, managing director of Bitget.

“We open up Web 3.0 to sports fans; they open the field to crypto traders. As the football World Cup approaches, Messi is to lead Argentina to new glory. We are honoured to have such a force of nature collaborate with us.”

Messi has shown excitement to join the company as an ambassador, and influencer as they explore possible opportunities within the crypto and web3 space.

“I wanted to thank Bitget for their enthusiasm in making me participate in the world of crypto. I trust that both parties can activate meaningful initiatives as well as in offering Web 3.0 to the sports fans,” adds Messi.

Messi follows the lead of fellow soccer icon Cristiano Ronaldo, who signed a sponsorship deal with cryptocurrency platform Binance earlier this year.

The agreement has been signed ahead of the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar, which will be Messi’s fifth appearance at the global soccer showpiece.
