The response to the AfroFutures2050 Call for Chapters has been nothing short of remarkable. From Johannesburg to Kenya, to Canada and schools are getting
involved, storytellers across the continent have begun to imagine bold new futures for Africa.
The submissions received so far, some are now showcased on our Submissions Page are as diverse and daring as the continent itself.
From visions of decolonised technologies to tales of environmental healing, radical governance, and ancestral wisdom reimagined, these stories are sparking exactly the kind of speculative thinking Africa needs. They are rich, weird, poetic, humorous, rebellious—and deeply rooted in African realities and dreams.
But this is just the beginning.
We launched AfroFutures2050 because we believe it’s time Africans stop being written into someone else’s future—and start writing our own. To do that, we need many more stories, more voices, more ideas.
Whether you’re a seasoned writer, a student, an auntie with a dream, or a curious citizen of tomorrow, your imagination is needed. The future isn’t something we wait for, it’s something we create, together.
Visit afrofutures2050.org to explore the submissions so far—and to find out how you can add your voice.
Submissions are still open. Help us ensure the future we write is one of our own making, not someone else’s.
Let’s dream. Let’s write. Let’s future Africa.
