Happy Pay, South Africa’s ad-subsidised payments network, and Ozow, one of South Africa’s leading payment platforms, have announced a partnership that will make zero deposit, interest-free Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) available to merchants across Ozow’s network. The integration is designed to be as frictionless as possible for merchants. Ozow merchants can activate Happy Pay’s BNPL option without additional development work, new contracts, or changes to their existing checkout setup. It plugs directly into the payment flow they already use, meaning merchants can start offering zero deposit instalments to their customers the same day they switch it on. Ozow currently...

Growth without exclusion: SA family business leverages AI & technology to protect, not replace, vulnerable workers
While the global narrative around Artificial Intelligence (AI) has often been defined by the fear of job losses, a third-generation South African manufacturer is proving that technology can have a soul. Lesco, a local producer of high-quality electrical and consumer products, this week announced the launch of its state-of-the-art semi-robotic production lines, with an unprecedented twist. The technological upgrade, combined with advanced use of AI on the factory floor, will lift output by between four and ten times depending on the line, while protecting every permanent role and every position held by a differently abled employee working for the business....
Microsoft’s $1 Billion Kenya Data Center Just Stalled Over Payment Guarantees
A $1 billion data center is a big bet on a continent that’s just starting to host them. Microsoft made that bet two years ago in Kenya. Now it’s stuck because nobody wants to be the one promising to pay the power bill. The Real Sticking Point In May 2024, Microsoft teamed up with UAE-based AI firm G42 to invest $1 billion in a Kenyan data center. The site was set to run on geothermal power and bring Microsoft’s Azure cloud to East Africa. Microsoft and G42 asked the Kenyan government to commit to paying for a set amount of...

What Executives Get Wrong About SEO (And How to Fix It) writes Taha Farhan
SEO sits in an awkward spot inside most companies. It’s too technical for executives to fully follow, too strategic to leave entirely to a junior marketer, and too slow to show results to fit neatly inside a quarterly review. So leaders tend to do one of two things. They either rubber-stamp the budget and look away, or they micromanage based on whatever ranking report landed in their inbox that week. Both miss the actual work. The companies that get the most out of SEO treat it less like a marketing tactic and more like a long-horizon investment. The discipline is...

Millions of soccer fans in the world’s two most populous nations may not be able to watch the World Cup that starts next month, due to a deadlock over broadcast rights in India and no official decision in China. In India, a Reliance-Disney joint venture has offered $20 million for 2026 World Cup broadcast rights, a fraction of FIFA’s ask, which was not acceptable to soccer’s global governing body, two sources told Reuters on Monday. Sony held talks but also decided not to make an offer for FIFA rights for India, a third source with direct knowledge said. There has...
