Russian Television [RT] channel to open a bureau in South Africa

Russian state-run television [RT] to set up a headquarters in South Africa, as part of their African expansion. The channel is in the process of hiring new staff to be part of the television. 

RT’s South African bureau will be run by Johannesburg-born journalist and international correspondent Paula Slier. 

The station spokesperson told News24: “We are indeed currently focused on developing our English-language Africa hub in South Africa, headed up by Paula Slier – a South Africa native, RT’s longtime correspondent and formerly head of RT’s Jerusalem bureau”. 

RT went on to say: “We will be releasing more updates about the particulars of this operation at the appropriate time.” 

Initially, RT was planning to open a Kenyan bureau, however, they were a change of heart and decided to locate in South Africa. The channel spokesperson couldn’t share further why they decided to locate in Mzansi instead of Nairobi, Kenya.
