South African companies are using English Premier League to advertise their brands.
Over the weekend during the Community Shield match between Manchester City and Liverpool, we saw several South African brands advertising on the electronic pitchside display.
Some of those brands we saw include Management College of South Africa [MANCOSA], Pedro, a flame-grilled chicken, Teljoy, African Bank and Mukuru, a fintech and money transfer platform.
The reason the majority of South African brands advertise in the English Premier League is that a lot of South African football fans watch a lot of EPL matches.
From a marketing stands point, it’s a great outlet for these companies to showcase their brands and given a number of eyeballs from South African football fans.
If Community Shield is anything to go by, we going to see a lot more of these brands in the coming weeks and months since the premier league is kicking off this coming weekend.
A couple of weeks back, we saw Mukuru sign a three years contract as a shirt sponsor of Crystal Palace, English Premiers League side.
