Artificial Intelligence or AI in short is eating and killing the career of graphic designers. To design a poster or logo, one doesn’t need a graphic designer anymore, the AI or machine learning can do it on your behalf in seconds.
PhotoRoom, a photo editing platform has raised a $19 million series A round to scale its operations. The seed round was led by Balderton Capital. According to the company, other angels from Facebook, Hugging Face and Disney+ also participated.
In a world where visual content dominates, and in which high-quality images boost conversions, and increase online engagement by as much as 352%, the need for high-quality, accessible editing tools is on the rise, states the company in a blog.
“By leveraging deep learning to translate pixels into objects, PhotoRoom’s advanced AI allows users to edit images in seconds. They can remove, replace or blur backgrounds. The software can be used to delete unwanted features with a Magic Retouch tool,” reads the company statement.
What will the money be used for? The funding will be used to develop PhotoRoom’s existing software further, improve generative AI features and keep hiring the best talent in Europe. PhotoRoom’s mission is to become the number-one photo editing platform in the world by democratising access to studio-quality photography and collaboration tools.
“We live in an increasingly visual world, and professional photo editing tools should no longer be reserved to big corporations like Nike or Louis Vuitton. High-quality visuals to enhance your small business are extremely powerful and PhotoRoom gives access to this while removing the heavy burden of planning and editing such images. In the future most product photography will be done entirely through software, PhotoRoom leading the way, allowing for more creativity and accessibility” said PhotoRoom CEO and co-founder Matthieu Rouif.
“With PhotoRoom we’re democratising access to tools that can transform how entrepreneurs and creators produce images. You’re now 10x faster, 10x cheaper, and 10x better than those big corporations. Working with Balderton Capital, we know we can bring these essential tools to more people, sellers, entrepreneurs, and marketplaces worldwide.”
Bernard Liautaud, Managing Partner at Balderton Capital said: “By focusing intently on user needs, Matthieu and Eliot have created a product that stands out from the rest. The importance of online photography is immense and PhotoRoom has both the traction and the ambition to become a market leader.”
The company was co-founded in late 2019 by Matthieu Rouif and Eliot Andres, since then PhotoRoom has become the go-to editing app for consumers, entrepreneurs and businesses worldwide looking to elevate their online imagery.
