T-Junction in partnership with DameConcepts (an Advertising Agency) last week Friday 08 December 2023 hosted the Second Gentlemen’s Lunch event featuring Dr. Gaby Magomola, an Author (Robben Island to Wall Street), Elder, Business Leader & Robin Island detainee with more than 40 years Banking Experience.
The event took place at EPF – Empire Partner Foundation head office, 35 Ferguson, Illovo, Sandton, Johannesburg.
The main aim of the event was to have a discussion with Dr Magomola and ask him the right questions related to business, life and South African geo-politics in order to move the country forward and create opportunities within our respective communities.
- How can we as businessmen with a common mindset,
- Set a spring board to work with current leaders (especially empowered black leaders in corporate),
- Change the narrative create a supportive ecosystem/network of competent and savvy businessmen,
- Support women led business without demeaning the existence and role of intentional competent men in business and society,
- Work with all business leaders from all races to be international in transformation (beyond BBBEE)?
Thabo Makama, founder and CEO of T Makama & Partners said, “The men as a collective have a societal responsibility to lead and to support all (men & women) in society and business through defined, clear and intentional communication strategies and programs. This role for many has become secondary and for some especially those men in business has become less recognised and overlooked.”

“The space is big enough for all to play in it , the question is what are leaders doing or should be doing to empower the next generation of business leaders? What is the role of men in promoting, protecting and supporting vulnerable groups without reneging on their role? Lastly, what are the leaders that were empowered by policies, programs and structure such as BMF, BBBEE, FABCOS, BBC and others doing to empower and lift others just as they were lifted and supported?, adds Makama.
