Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid crowned most valuable soccer club at €6.28bn

LaLiga’s Real Madrid have retained top spot in Football Benchmark’s latest valuation report, with an enterprise value (EV) of €6.28 billion (US$7.1 billion).

Confirmed:

  • Real Madrid become first soccer team with a value exceeding €6 billion (US$6.77 billion)
  • Manchester City and Manchester United retain second and third place, with valuations of €5.1 billion (US$5.75 billion) and €5.05 billion (US$5.7 billion) respectively
  • Aston Villa saw the biggest one-year growth of all clubs, with their value growing by 42 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to €899 million (US$1.01 billion)
  • Total EV of the top 32 teams reaches €64.7 billion (US$73 billion) in 2025

Context:

Real Madrid notably became the first soccer club to exceed €1 billion (US$1.13 billion) in total operating revenues last year. The Spanish giants have also topped soccer valuation rankings from Sportico and CNBC this month, with both outlets pitting their valuation at more than US$6.5 billion.

This is the tenth annual valuation report produced by Football Benchmark, which has ranked 32 European teams. To be eligible for its ranking, clubs had to be among the top 50 European teams by total operating revenue and among the top 50 according to Uefa’s five-year coefficient, or among the top 30 most-followed European teams on social media as of 1st January 2025.

Football Benchmark noted that since its inaugural report in 2016, the total EV of the top 32 teams has grown by 146 per cent. While it noted that the average squad cost-to-revenue ratio has dropped over recent years to 82 per cent in 2025, profitability is said to still be a challenge, with the growth of squad costs (78 per cent) outstripping operating revenues (72 per cent).

Coming next:

Real Madrid will be a favourite to win the Fifa Club World Cup later this summer. They will not, however, be competing in the Uefa Champions League final on 31st May, which will pit Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), who ranked eighth in Football Benchmark’s report with a valuation of €3.76 billion (US$4.24 billion), against Inter Milan, who came in 14th place with a valuation of €1.71 billion (US$1.93 billion).
