The Next Phase of AI: Agentic Thinking and the End of the Cell Phone Era writes John Sanai

We’re now moving into the next phase of AI: regenerative AI, or what I call agentic thinking. This is AI that self-evolves, thinks for itself, creates new agents, and assigns them tasks to solve.

At first, we’ll still give it instructions. But very soon, it will start creating and completing its own tasks. And when that happens, we’ll find ourselves surrounded by hyper-abundance.

A World of Personal Digital Assistants

Imagine this: every one of us has our own personal assistant, our own Jeeves, and these assistants are constantly talking to other Jeeves on our behalf.

Bumble’s CEO even said that, in the future, you won’t be speaking to other people on Bumble. Your AI will talk to someone else’s AI, decide whether you’re a match, and then set up the real-life meeting.

Sounds efficient, right? Well, I actually think it’s a bit sad. But either way, this is the direction we’re heading.

What AI Agents Really Are

Generative AI is the biggest revolution to ever enter our reality. Let’s be clear about what it is:

AI agents are programs that can think, plan, and act on your behalf. You set a goal, and they figure out the steps, no constant human input needed.

You could say: “Find me an Italian restaurant with gluten-free pasta, book a table for three, and put it in my calendar.” Done. Simple. And within the next few months, that level of convenience will be normal.

The Shift That’s Shaking Big Tech

This change is so huge that Microsoft’s CEO said it marks the end of Microsoft’s business as they know it. SaaS, as we know it, will shift, because these agents will start doing tasks for free.

Salesforce is already adapting, launching something called AgentForce. The biggest SaaS companies in the world are pivoting their business models in real time.

Why Agents Change the Game

As humans, we’re supercomputers when it comes to taking in information. But when it comes to putting information into technology, we’re still primitive.

That’s why agents are game-changing. They evolve the way we interact with tech. Back in 2007, when the iPhone launched, we peaked at around 200 inputs per minute.

Agents will have unlimited inputs between each other, enabling an explosion of services and tasks done for us, at zero cost.

The End of the Cell Phone Era

This shift is so significant that Warren Buffett has started pulling money out of Apple. He knows something: as voice-activated agent technology matures, the smartphone will become secondary.

We don’t fully know what this new world will look like yet. But here’s the thing: the people who are optimistic, fascinated, and curious will jump in and take advantage of it.

The ones who are afraid will step back. And as with every major shift in history, the choice is yours.
