The Thabo Mbeki Foundation and the City of Johannesburg are collaborating to build the Thabo Mbeki Presidential Library Heritage Precinct.

The site – which is yet to be built – will be located in Riviera, Johannesburg.

Former president Thabo Mbeki says the precinct will bring South Africans together to engage one another on the challenges that continue to befall the country.

He was speaking in Johannesburg where the collaboration agreement was signed on Tuesday.

The foundation says processes are underway to collect artefacts and writing material from leaders in the African continent – which would be available on site.

Mbeki said, “We will able to say come to Johannesburg. Come to this tourism place here to see how the South Africans, the Africans are engaging one another in the context of their past… One of the main challenges we South Africans face is talking to another.”

Nonceba Molwelwe, The speaker for the City of Johannesburg said, “The Thabo Mbeki Presidential Library will be a Mecca for Africa. A place of pride for Africa. The location of this project has been carefully chosen in Johannesburg , a world class African City.”
