Tencent’s WeChat has made its content searchable on some foreign search engines such as Google, and Microsoft’s Bing, according to Reuters checks.
WeChat’s content, including articles and videos on its popular public accounts page, a function similar to a news portal, has opened to external search engines, other than its own Sogou search engine, in recent days.
WeChat is a Chinese multi-purpose instant messaging, social media and mobile payment app developed by Tencent. First released in 2011, it became the world’s largest standalone mobile app in 2018, with over 1 billion monthly active users.
The chat messaging application played a crucial role in the launch of CliffCentral, this come after WeChat South Africa partnered with Gareth Cliff and his business partner Rina Broomberg, co-founder of CliffCentral.com to build its South African presence.
