The majority or some of us grew up watching Jonathan Ahmad Calloway, known as Sway, is an American radio personality, journalist and former rapper known for hosting music, news, and culture programming. Sway reporting and covering music news events on television, especially on MTV and radio. He even inspired some of us to go to university to study journalism, media and mass communications.
Given Sway’s knowledge of hip hop and where the industry comes from, one expects a lot from him but the brother is playing small, unfortunately. You might be asking yourself what I mean by saying Sway plays small?
The brother created a cool brand called Sway’s Universe, a web portal with hip hop news and lifestyle content, he also host a morning radio show called ‘Sway In the Morning’ on Shade 45 on Sirius XM. The channel Shade 45 is owned by Marshall Bruce Mathers III, known professionally as Eminem, is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer of ‘Slam Shady’ fame.

Big brother Sway and Zozi, former Miss South Africa
No disrespect to Sway but given his personal brand and Sway’s Universe brand, one expects him to partner with Sirius XM to create his own channel to carry his morning show and create opportunities for other people to be part of his radio station. Here’s free advice, he can call the channel Sway’s Universe of Sirius XM. I remember in one of Sway’s interviews talking to Dame Dash, Dame said “you should start your own radio station, you’re Sway, you interviewed Tupac and Notorious BIG.”
This is the problem I have with African Americans, they have created a culture that can benefit their communities and create huge wealth, however people outside the culture are the ones who are benefiting within their watch. The majority of hip hop radio stations in America are white-owned from Hot97, Shade 45 and Power 105 which is owned by iHeart Media. Only recently, hip hop legend LL Cool J started his own channel called Rock the Bells on Sirius XM and Kevin Hart with LOL Radio Network.
The same thing can be said with television, Revolt TV is the only hip hop television station that is black-owned by Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. This is shocking and hurtful, the owners of the culture are not profiting from the same culture they’ve created. Only people from outside are making money from black culture. Something needs to be done, it can’t carry on like this, African Americans need to wake up and smell the roses.
I love you BIG Brother Sway, I’m doing what I do TODAY because of you, however I expect a lot from my BIG BRO and South Africa loves you! I will love to appear on your show to explain in more details. Love Rethabilem on X.
