Carry1st, South African mobile gaming service provider and publisher managed to raise $20 Million series A cash injection. The company’s seed round was led by veteran venture capitalist firm Andreessen Horowitz.
The Johannesburg based startup will use the money to scale their interactive content and to expand their business operations across the Africa continent.

Carry1st was founded in 2018 by Cordel Robbin-Coker, Lucy Hoffman and Tinotenda Mundangepfupfu. At the moment, the company has employed 37 staff members across 18 markets.
“We have a full-suite service that starts with distribution and partnerships. We help them create bespoke marketing materials from short-form advertising videos to statics, and we customise their content to resonate with individuals in different countries,” said Robbin-Coker while speaking to TechCrunch.
“And then we operate the game and we also monetise. So we’ve built out our monetisation engine to allow users to be able to pay for content that they want more easily across Africa,” he added.
