ICASA receives six Applications for Spectrum licensing

Finally the madness has ended, spectrum frequency can be auctioned. 

ICASA, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa announced that they have received six applications for the upcoming spectrum auction. 

All six telecoms managed to peached the deadline for submission. In no particular order, applicants are as follows: 

Cell C 

MTN 

Vodacom 

Telkom 

Rain 

Networks 

Liquid Telecoms 

The Authority will announce the qualified bidders on 21 February 2022. 

Icasa chairperson, Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng is happy with the current applicants for respecting the process and adhering to the rules of engagements . 

“We thank all applicants for participating in the process. We intend to finally see the licensing of high-demand spectrum through to completion to ensure that all South Africans have access to a wide range of communications services, including data services, at affordable prices,” says Dr Modimoeng.

“We value each milestone in this process, especially considering the mammoth legal challenges we have encountered along the way. Ultimately, public interest should prevail, as this process will yield positive spinoffs for the industry and society at large,” Dr Modimoeng added.
