OpenSea, NFT marketplace let go of 20% of its employees – due to crypto winter

The crypto space is going through a tough time at the moment, as a majority of companies are scaling back their growth and plan to hire more staff.

NFT marketplace OpenSea announced that it’s laying off around 20% of the company staff members. The company’s CEO Devin Finzer posted the message on Twitter.

“The reality is that we have entered an unprecedented combination of crypto winter and broad macroeconomic instability, and we need to prepare the company for the possibility of a prolonged downturn.”

Through his Twitter, he went further to say… “Today is a hard day for OpenSea, as we’re letting go of ~20% of our team. Here’s the note I shared with our team earlier this morning: pic.twitter.com/E5k6gIegH7”

Finzer says the changes the company is making are very very important in order to keep the ship running in the coming years.

“The changes we’re making today put us in a position to maintain multiple years of runway under various crypto winter scenarios (5 years at the current volume), and give us high confidence that we will only have to go through this process once.”

Finzer writes, “Winter is our time to build.”
