Discord announced that Gas app, compliments-based social media app will come to an end. The company believes they have achieved their main objectives, which was the talent acquisition. The move comes after the company acquired the app for an undisclosed sum in January.
According to the company, the compliments-based social media app will officially shut down on November 7.
“We can confirm that the Gas app will be shutting down on November 7,” said Discord spokesperson in a press statement.
“We acquired Gas with the goal of supporting our efforts to grow across new and core audiences, and make Discord the best place to talk, hang out and have fun with friends online. The team will continue to play a vital role in our work to make it easier for users to connect with their friends on Discord.”
Post the purchase Gas has been operating as a standalone app, “we’re always working to create an inclusive world where no one feels like an outsider and we’re excited to welcome Gas to the Discord community as our next step to fulfilling that vision.”
Launched in August 2022, Gas became popular among teens because of its goal to offer a positive social media network. The app reached 1 million daily active userswithin two months, reports TechCrunch.
During the height of its popularity, in October and November 2022, Gas dethroned TikTok and other popular social apps in the Apple App Store rankings.
