New Tyler Perry series are coming to Netflix, starting with the drama Beauty in Black

The Tyler Perry media empire is expanding even further. The prolific producer, director, writer, and performer and Netflix have extended their creative partnership, adding a multi-year first-look series deal on top of the initial multi-year first-look film deal that was announced in 2023.

First up under the new deal is Beauty in Black, a 16-episode hour-long drama that follows two women living very different lives: Kimmie struggles to make a living after her mother kicks her out, while Mallory finds success running her own business — eventually, they find themselves entangled in each other’s lives. Angi Bones and Tony Strickland will also produce the series for Tyler Perry Studios.

The next wave of Perry’s Netflix content will begin on Feb. 23 with Mea Culpa, the steamy thriller starring and produced by Kelly Rowland, and will continue later this year with Six Triple Eight, the Kerry Washington starrer about the inspiring true story of the the first and only Women’s Army Corp unit of color to be stationed overseas during World War II.

Perry’s previous films with Netflix include A Jazzman’s Blues, an epic about forbidden love that made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival; A Madea Homecoming, the 12th installment of the billion-dollar Madea franchise, and the thriller A Fall from Grace.
