Spanish giant Real Madrid and Cisco expand tech partnership ahead of Bernabeu’s NFL debut

Real Madrid and Cisco are deepening their technological relationship ahead of the Spanish soccer giant’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium hosting the first ever National Football League (NFL) regular season game in the country later this year.

Confirmed:

  • Cisco has agreed a multi-year extension to remain Real Madrid’s official technology partner
  • Deal will see more tech added to the revamped Bernabeu as well as the Real Madrid City training complex
  • Real Madrid City will receive Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, a 100Gbps network connection to the Bernabeu and an artificial-intelligence (AI) ready data centre on-site.

Context:

Cisco and Real Madrid worked extensively on the major redevelopment of the Bernabeu, with its networking technology integrated into the design of the stadium, powering everything from backend operations and public-facing Wi-Fi networks to content creation and audiovisual capabilities.

Such partnerships are common at major stadiums and are crucial for driving operational efficiencies, fan satisfaction, and revenue opportunities. Tottenham Hotspur has a similar relationship with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).

The expansion of this infrastructure to Real Madrid’s training complex will unlock a range of new possibilities on and off the pitch. Real Madrid City is also the technological command centre for the entire organisation – including the Bernabeu – demonstrating the significance of this upgrade.

Comment:

“Networks are at the heart of digitalisation, which is transforming all sectors, including sport and entertainment,” said Andreu Vilamitjana, chief executive of Cisco Spain and Portugal. ”Three years ago, the new Bernabéu stadium set a global benchmark in converged connectivity thanks to Cisco technology. Now, it will once again be a pioneer in delivering immersive, sustainable and cost-effective interactions.”

Coming next:

The Santiago Bernabeu will host the NFL’s Miami Dolphins and Washington Commanders on the 16th November 2025.
