The e-commerce giant Amazon announced it will cut 18 000 jobs within the company as the global economic recession continues to bite.
The move will see almost 10 000 staff at the e-commerce giant loses their jobs and ultimately their daily bread, given the current economic climate and challenges.
According to the company’s CEO Andy Jesse, the layoff will affect roles in the devices and books business including People, Experience, and Technology (PXT) and Amazon Stores businesses.
“We typically wait to communicate about these outcomes until we can speak with the people who are directly impacted,” Jassy wrote.
“However, because one of our teammates leaked this information externally, we decided it was better to share this news earlier so you can hear the details directly from me.”
The company is yet to announce what kind of severance package will give the affected parties however, the CEO promised that they’re working on something to give casualties some golden handshake.
